So somehow I just discovered in the last two months that Diane DiMassa is apparently part of the ranks of the biologically essentialist lesbian feminists. It shouldn’t be surprising, and yet again its one of those “commonly known” things that I am somehow just finding out about.

In retrospect its not terribly surprising, when rereading the comic, but it is still upsetting.

Because Hothead was one of the first places I saw something that really made me feel good, media wise. It was someone who talked and acted in a way that spoke to me. Hell, I even had a cat named Chicken, I was so inspired.

So to find out that she apparently can’t take fucking criticism about her decision to associate with the MWMF and would rather believe things that erase trans* folks…

I keep thinking about unknowablewoman’s argument for not saying “people” instead of “women” when it comes to reproductive battles, something like “Jeez! Its not all about you all the time, you freaks!” Well, that’s true, but doesn’t go far enough. Its NEVER about trans* people in a way that supportive rather than demonizing or enforcing stereotypes unless its trans* people creating it.  NO ONE, even those who could find a strong alliance with us for their issues, wants to work with us.

No wonder no one notices when black and latina trans*women are dying by the score, or just disappear. Between not addressing the blatant racism of our society and wanting to pretend that trans* people aren’t who they say they are, its easier to just keep the blinders on.
