I’m so bad at time management and deadlines.
which, combined with anxiety about failure is so much fun.

in other news, my fears about money have not gone away despite finding decent employment. My student loans are due and the monthly payment is pretty low, for student loans, and I can afford them, I’m just panicked for no goddamn reason. I’m afraid to pay that bill, because what if tomorrow the money is gone? what if I suddenly dont have a job anymore? what if what if what if what if

I’m going to drink more.

Sperm donor fights attempts to force him to pay child support to lesbian coupleA sperm donor is fighting an effort to force him to pay child support for a child conceived through artificial insemination by a lesbian couple.William Marotta told The Topeka Capital-Journal newspaper he’s “a little scared about where this is going to go, primarily for financial reasons.”When the 46-year-old donated sperm to Angela Bauer and Jennifer Schreiner in 2009, Marotta relinquished all parental rights, including financial responsibility to the child. When Bauer and Schreiner filed for state assistance in Kansas this year, the state demanded the donor’s name so it could collect child support for the now 3-year-old girl. Pay close attention folks.  Neither of the women is suing this man for child support.  The state is.  The women, having gone through a divorce and having a child between them, should have been made to go through a judgment for custody and child support that effected only the two of them.  Instead, because the state doesn’t like the idea of a lesbian couple, they are attempting to involve the donor.   The problem with this is that had this been a heterosexual couple who had sought a donor and artificial insemination due to infertility, the court would not go after the donor, but would have sought child support between the couple.  But because lesbians are involved, now they go after the donor. Homophobic bullshit.

Reblogging for generalbriefing’s commentary, which is spot on.

That is all kinds of fucked up.

Oh the MRAs are gonna love this.

Anyone care to bet that the MRA crowd will correctly identify homophobic state policy as the source of this issue rather than blame feminists who have absolutely nothing to do with it whatsoever?
Yeah, me neither.

Reblogging for commentary. This is the problem with a patchwork of state level laws governing same-sex partnership & parental rights-not to mention with the total lack of a social safety net for ANYONE.
Our government, which punishes the poor every chance it gets, routinely tries to squeeze support money out of non-custodial parents (not donors generally, obvi) & then JAILS them when they can’t afford to pay-because THAT’S going to help. /sarcasm

PSA for USians

“Unconstitutional” does not mean “I disagree with this law.” So when your argument that a new law that requires drug testing welfare recipients (or any law, really) is not unconstitutional hinges on the fact that you agree with the law and not on the law’s consistence with the Constitution, you are wrong. Not because I say so, but because you are not even following the basic logic you claim you are.

Either argue the merits of the law based in its constitutionality, or argue that you dis/agree with it. Those are not the same thing.

Thank you. This has been a PSA.

Filed under there are mutiple problems with those laws but that is another post for another day. Let's just say that I'm against them and leave it at that for now. law logic poverty US PSA welfare

If working women earned the same as men (those who work the same number of hours; have the same education, age, and union status; and live in the same region of the country), their annual family incomes would rise by $4,000 and poverty rates would be cut in half.

(National Women’s Law Center)

Just for all those people who keep trying to claim that paying women the same amount as equivalent men is an unimportant issue to society.

(via lucypaw)

aaaand again no one talks about race in this quote, despite the article. what working women vs what working men? because if we’re talking about white woman vs white man theres only like a .25 diff…but if youre talking about hispanic or native american women, white men literally make TWICE as much. every time people put these facts up with no acknowledgement of how much more white women make compared to everyone else, its fucking bullshit.

white feminism loves to campaign on salary equality talmbout “where are my .25” while conveniently forgetting that itd be much more stark of a figure if they measure WOC against white men. where is my motherfucking DOLLAR! wtf? but why point out how privileged you are, right? its only about equality for white women in the end.

(via soydulcedeleche)

Right? Plus I rarely see an explicit mention of the fact that the median income of white women is higher than that of either black or latino men. So…all that about how racism is settled but no one cares about sexism? Bullshit.

Finding the statistics for the first time of median income broken down by race, sex, and education, and seeing that white women outearn men of color, and yet never hearing that fact from white feminists, was my first wake-up call that white feminism really isn’t interested in me. Steinem & crew can keep their shit.

(via readnfight)

It’s also true that this does not account for the fact that we’re only talking about cis people.  Trans people earn even less and have even higher rates of unemployment than their cis counterparts.  This also is true for the disabled and so on.
