In undergrad, I made myself a first person source for my life below the US border. I was told I was plagiarizing. PLAGIARIZING WHAT? So they’re like, “Okay no, you’re not plagiarizing but you’re not qualified to be a first source.” I asked why and they didn’t say anything other than a jumble of words in short telling me that people with the specific type of education can dictate a first source.

In other words, my words mean nothing until it’s framed through a eurocentric lens. So it chaps my ass that these people are going through POC blogs, getting credit for it, because they’re the academic lens they want. If we wrote this shit on our academic papers, they’d be snapping their fingers for their white, qualifying sources of our lives.

Fuck that.
